The Pop-up Players
Eager, collaborative actors willing to experiment with the text and the medium of zoom.
“Our state is sick, your policies have done this.”
Tieresias, prophet of Thebes
Thebes is wracked by chaos. The great city limps away from a horrific war, and is beset by civil unrest, a devastating plague, and a cruel king. One girl dares to defy the unrepentant tyrant, and through her rebellion inspires others to fight for what is true. Come audition for Antigone, presented by The Pop-up Players and directed by Emerson Helmbrecht. Auditions are February 11th-14th, and the show runs March 26th-28th
About the production: The world today and the city of Thebes are beset with similar problems: Arrogant leaders, lack of respect for the young, contempt for those who interpret the natural world, and a devastating sickness. This production will capture the essential drama embedded in the text while commenting on the current state of things. Rehearsals will largely focus on the poetry of the language, and how the actor’s vocal instrument can capture movement and compensate for the lack of physical motion inherent in a virtual production. We’re looking for collaborative, eager actors willing to jump into the work and experiment with this text. For the audition, please bring a 1-2 minute monologue of your choice, and a poem that you love to read. The poem does not have to be memorized.
